You’re ready: time to get started with BCI Gebouw!

Calculate the CO₂, environmental and circularity performance of your building yourself. Discover how to make smart improvements on your own.

To get the most out of BCI Gebouw, we recommend taking a BCI Gebouw training. These are led by certified BCI Gebouw experts or professionals from our team.

BCI Gebouw offers seven types of training:

1. BCI Gebouw Basic Training

The BCI Gebouw Basic Training gives you insight into material-based decision-making and its impact. You’ll learn how to calculate these material-based performances using BCI Gebouw and how to influence them. The training lasts half a day (4 hours) and includes:

• Theory: background on CO₂, environmental, and circularity performance.
• Practical session: you’ll work in a demo environment to practice calculating and optimizing material performance with BCI Gebouw.

Good to know: after the session, you’ll keep access to the demo environment for several weeks so you can continue practicing.

This training takes place online (via MS Teams) every second Tuesday of the month. An English version is available on separate dates (see below). Duration: 4 hours.

Target audience: professionals in construction (architects, developers, contractors, consultants) who want to understand and influence material performance.

2. BCI Gebouw In-Company Training

Working with multiple people on sustainability in your organization? Then the In-Company Training is a smart option.

It covers the same learning goals as the Basic Training but is delivered on-site (within the Netherlands). Your trainer will contact you beforehand to align on your team’s specific learning objectives. We recommend a group size of 8 to 10 participants.

This training is scheduled in consultation with the requesting party and trainer availability. An English-language version is available on request. Duration: 4 hours.

Target audience: construction professionals working in organizations that want to gain and apply knowledge on material performance together.

3. BCI Gebouw “Het Nieuwe Normaal” (HNN) Training

In collaboration with Cirkelstad, this training introduces you to “Het Nieuwe Normaal” (HNN): a framework to make circular construction measurable and actionable.

You’ll learn how to use indicators such as MPG, MKI, PPI, CSC and disassembly to assess and improve circular performance in your project or organization.

Training outline (4 hours):

• Framework: the development, structure, and meaning of Het Nieuwe Normaal.
• Hands-on practice: apply the framework to a real-life case and analyze outcomes using BCI Gebouw.
• Integration: how to embed Het Nieuwe Normaal in policies, design, and execution.

Good to know: You’ll receive templates and tools to use in your own projects.

This training is offered online (see dates below) en held in Dutch. However, if in English is wanted, please contact us.

Target audience: professionals in construction who want to actively apply Het Nieuwe Normaal. Members of Cirkelstad receive a discounted rate. Please mention this when booking.

4. BCI Gebouw Real Estate Training

Are you not on the designing or calculating side, but more in a client role? Want more control over circular construction and material-based sustainability in your project or portfolio but don’t know where to start?

This training is perfect for you.

You’ll learn what circularity really means and how to manage it. You’ll explore key indicators and methods like MKI/MPG, GWP, CSC, and disassembly. You’ll also learn how to turn data into strategic decisions, and how to use circularity and performance data to define and achieve your sustainability goals.

Topics include:

• Introduction to circularity
• Reporting and benchmarking
• Principles of circular construction
• Indicators and performance metrics
• Strategy & ambition setting
• Decision-making based on impact
• Reporting and accountability (e.g. NPCE, WLC, CSRD)

Offered online via MS Teams. Duration: 4 hours.

Target audience: real estate professionals (housing associations, municipalities, provinces, large companies) looking to manage and report on circularity across their portfolios, tenders, and renovation plans.

English version available on request.

5. BCI Gebouw Software Training

This training is a quick refresher on how to navigate and work effectively with BCI Gebouw software. You’ll follow a structured process to create accurate calculations.

You’ll learn how to:

• Define the scope of your calculation
• Scale products
• Optimize your calculation
• Process data from various exports
• Work accurately and efficiently

Offered online via MS Teams. Duration: 2.5 hours.

It’s the perfect preparation for the Advanced Training and a great way to refresh your knowledge or deepen your software skills.

Target audience: professionals already familiar with circular indicators who want to use BCI Gebouw to optimize their projects.

English version available on request.

6. BCI Gebouw Advanced Training

Ready to take your material-based sustainability work to the next level? Already have experience with BCI Gebouw and circular calculations? This training is for you.

Requirements:

• Background in construction (education and/or experience)
• Experience creating or reviewing multiple BCI calculations

The training consists of two parts:

1. The Basic and/or Software Training (must be completed first)
2. The Advanced session

This in-depth session is led by a certified BCI Gebouw Expert. From 10 AM to 4 PM, you’ll work on real calculations—yours and those of other participants. This practical approach helps you understand key calculation components, valuation, and trade-offs.

Additional details:

• Small group size (max. 4 participants per trainer)
• Independent calculation work is required
• You’ll review peers’ calculations
• Bring your own project calculation for evaluation

This training is mandatory if you want to become a certified BCI Gebouw Expert.

Target audience: professionals who want to extract maximum value from data to make the best material choices for any (re)construction project.

7. BCI Gebouw Expert Approval

After completing the Advanced Training, you can apply to become a certified BCI Gebouw Expert.

What you’ll demonstrate:

• Deep understanding of material-based indicators
• Ability to optimize without compromising construction quality
• Proficiency with BCI Gebouw software
• Capability to create and validate calculations

Requirements:

• Completion of the Advanced Training (including Basic/Software modules)
• Validation of one calculation made by another person (part of the training)
• Approval of one recent calculation made by you, with no major corrections required
• Annual validation of at least one new calculation following the same standards

The BCI Gebouw examinator determines your approval based on the quality of your calculation and your reasoning for material choices.
