Introduction to BCI Gebouw International: European LCA Data Now Available for Construction Professionals!

As from November 2025, BCI Gebouw offers a significant expansion within its platform: BCI Gebouw International. This module provides construction professionals with access to EPD data from the ECO Portal (ECO Platform), enabling international GWP calculations alongside the familiar Dutch MPG environment. As a result, BCI Gebouw becomes a central platform for both national and European datasets, with a clear separation between the two options.

Access to European LCA Data with Full Transparency in Data Quality

BCI Gebouw International gives access to ECO Portal EPDs from various European countries and programme operators. These datasets differ in background processes, energy mixes, waste scenarios, and lifecycle modelling.

For users, this means they can:

  • Compare GWP results based on country or manufacturer;
  • Assess alternative material options;
  • Simulate international project contexts;
  • Gain insight into the actual European variation in LCA data, rather than relying on a single uniform national dataset.

This module is specifically intended as an analytical and exploratory environment for GWP calculations. The results must not be used as a replacement for Dutch NMD-based MPG or MKI scores.

Integration with BCI Data for Circularity and Disassembly

All international LCA data is enriched with information from the BCI database, such as:

  • Material origin and future scenarios;
  • Circularity parameters (MCI);
  • Disassembly information (LI);
  • Biogenic CO₂ storage (CSC).

This integration is supported by AI-assisted mapping, allowing users to immediately see both the CO₂ impact and circularity potential. Thus, BCI Gebouw International is not just a CO₂ tool, but a comprehensive environment for design decisions regarding circularity and climate performance.

Strict Separation Between BCI Gebouw NL and BCI Gebouw International

BCI Gebouw International operates entirely separately from the Dutch MPG/MKI environment.

  • The data is not interchangeable;
  • The methodology is GWP-focused, not MPG-focused;
  • Products from the National Environmental Database (NMD) are not available in the international module;
  • ECO Portal data is not suitable for official MPG applications.

This separation prevents confusion and meets all requirements regarding data sources for bbl projects. It ensures that both the Dutch and international environments remain reliable, transparent, and compliant with standards.

Registration via User Group Administrators

The international module is activated manually. Access is managed by the main users (User Group Administrators) of license holders.

  • Each license holder receives access at the organisational level;
  • The administrator can then assign users and roles within the organisation;
  • The module appears as a separate environment within BCI Gebouw.

Users can register for access by requesting it via techniek@bcigebouw.nl. This applies only to users with the administrator role. They will then receive a demonstration video explaining the operation and possibilities of the international module, and how to grant others access within their licence.

About BCI Gebouw

BCI Gebouw is the leading Dutch platform for measuring the circularity, CO₂ and environmental performance of buildings. With BCI Gebouw International, an important step is taken towards European harmonisation of construction data, in line with the upcoming requirement for Whole Life Carbon reporting (EPBD 2024/1275).
