Whitepaper: Circular Real Estate Measurement Method
Version 1.0: March 2022
The Whitepaper Circular Real Estate Measurement Method is a publication by BCI Gebouw and Alba Concepts that provides insight into the calculation rules that form the Building Circularity Index© (BCI) measurement method.
This method was developed in response to the need to steer circularity in the early design phase of real estate projects. The BCI measurement method was designed to assess the level of circularity of real estate objects from the initial stages of design.
Since 2016, Alba Concepts, in collaboration with the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), has been working on this methodology. This method also serves as the foundation for the BCI Gebouw tool as it exists today.
BCI Gebouw contributes to one of the core goals of the Circular Construction Economy Transition Agenda: making circularity measurable to raise awareness among stakeholders and society. The development of the BCI Index is ahead of the introduction of a harmonized measurement method. Reaching a consensus on this topic is desirable. To support the creation of a harmonized measurement method, this whitepaper also explicitly identifies both the challenges and opportunities associated with circular measurement.
The whitepaper is temporary only available in Dutch, the English version is under construction.
